Transition to School

When is My Child Eligible to Begin Preschool and School?

All Department for Education and Children’s Services (DECD) and many non-government schools have a single intake policy, where all students start at the beginning of the year. This means that preschools also have a single intake policy.
Children who turn 4 on or before 30th April begin preschool at the beginning of the year and children who turn 4 after this date begin preschool in the following year.
Children who turn 5 on or before 30th April begin school at the beginning of the year and children who turn 5 after this date begin school in the following year.

Transition to Preschool

Going to preschool is an important milestone for parents and children. During Term 4 of the year prior to full-time preschool, children attend two transition visits where they meet the educators and other children. Families will receive a detailed letter outlining the transition programme.
There is also a Parent Information Evening in late November.

Transition to School

For children attending Wynn Vale School the transition programme is conducted over consecutive weeks during Term 4. The children spend time in a classroom, getting to know the teachers and other children. A letter will be sent to families outlining details.
Other schools will inform families of their transition programmes at the time of enrollment.
